MARBLE AND ART
Marble has been present throughout the whole history of art. From the funerals of Paros and Naxos of the first century BC, to the main buildings of the Athenian Acropolis – such as the Parthenon -, to the excellence of Italian art, considering artists such as Bernini, Canova and Michelangelo. The latter personally chose from the ravines of the Apuan alps where to extract the blocks for his sculptures. From the end of the sixteenth century and between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, marble has been used for interior design.
The increase of other materials during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, made marble sculpture rarer, but the rock special brightness and expression power still make it the ultimate choice for the designs of top architects
